When the Art House, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts’ (AFA) virtual art gallery, launched on Sept 27 during Alberta Culture Days, the AFA became Canada’s first member to join the eMuseum network. You can now access over 8,000 pieces of visual art by more than 1,700 Alberta artists, all without leaving the comfort of your couch!
The AFA’s $13 million collection can be seen in detail through this online gallery, a wonderful resource that also has a wealth of information on each art piece, making it a great tool for research and education…or just to be admired and contemplated.
By becoming part of the eMuseum network, the AFA Art House is now part of a global gallery collective. The eMuseum network houses over 1.7 million pieces from 61 recognized institutions such as New York’s prestigious Museum of Modern Art.
In addition to the AFA Art House, Albertans can enjoy works from the AFA’s art collection in person through the foundation’s Travelling Exhibition Program, which arranges exhibits in more than 100 communities annually. Free e-cards featuring works from the AFA collection are also available through the AFA’s website.
