It’s opening night for Nevermore: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allen Poe! Produced by Catalyst Theatre, this Alberta-based troupe is taking the show to the Big Apple for their Off-Broadway debut, which opened on January 25.
That’s one of the great things about the arts. It transcends borders and showcases the imagination and creativity of the storytellers. Catalyst Theatre is an Edmonton institution, founded in 1977 and devoted to creating new Canadian work, which makes it a great cultural ambassador for Alberta. To have this show opening Off Broadway for an open-ended run is not just a great opportunity—it is a genuine moment of wonder, a reminder of why we support the arts in all its diversity.
Catalyst Theatre has won many awards and gone on international tours with their productions and their commitment to producing quality Canadian content helps shine a light on the strengths of the Albertan arts and cultural scene. It is one of our great cultural export as well as an amazing chance for our homegrown talent to stretch their creative muscles and flourish under the big city lights.
