1. Block Party!
Remember old TV shows when families would get together at the beginning of summer and host a community-wide potluck? It was a great way to meet your neighbours, let the kids meet new friends and celebrate the great place where you all chose to live. Alberta Culture Days is exactly like that except province-wide and boasting a dizzying array of events, activities, concerts and performances to enjoy.
And you can join in by hosting/organizing your own community event!
2. Celebrate culture, celebrate community
To host an Alberta Culture Days event is to do something that celebrates culture—the shared values that we hold as Canadians and as Albertans. The right to play, to make art, to sing songs and to dance in the park are the simple but beautiful rights we have by virtue of our citizenship. Hosting an Alberta Culture Days event will help showcase those values. If there are any newcomers in your neighbourhood, there is no better way to introduce them to life in Alberta!
3. Community Talent Show
We all have talents—this is the perfect opportunity to share them with everyone!
Maybe you can whistle the alphabet, hoola hoop or knit a scarf in record time…whatever your talent is, this is your time to shine and showcase your passions within the community. Talent shows are the perfect opportunity to show another side of you and see the talents of others. Besides, what better excuse is there to create a choreographed Spice Girls dance with your friends?
4. Cost-effective Community Building
Culture Days gives us all a great reason to step away from our computer and cellphone screens and into our community. Events don’t have to be expensive or elaborate to be a part of Alberta Culture Days, they just simply have to be. Use this opportunity to connect with your neighbours and go on a photo walk or even host a bake sale with the entire block. Whatever you choose to do, it’s the company and the experience that matters most.
5. It’s the end of summer…so let’s make the most of the time!
We hate to admit it too…but summer is almost over. In just a few short months, we will all be bundled up and covered in snow reminiscing about the days we didn’t need our block heaters. But the good news is, there’s no snow yet (fingers crossed) and we can seal off summer 2015 with a bang thanks to Alberta Culture Days. Come out for one last hurray to summer before we dig out the snow shovels.
