The Olympic Games have now been over for a couple weeks, so that means it’s time for the Paralympic Games to take over Rio de Janeiro, September 7 to 18!

Canada ranks third in all-time medal standings with 1,028, and 386 of those are everyone’s favourite colour, gold. This year, 19 Alberta athletes are part of the Team Canada contingent, ready to head into the opening ceremonies and onto the world’s stage.

Throughout these Paralympics, you’ll see elite athletes competing in sports like para-athletics and wheelchair basketball, para-rugby and goalball. If you’ve never seen these sports before, they just might make a fan out of you! Nineteen different sports are being contested, which gives you a lot of ways to explore the diverse athleticism of the Paralympic Games.

Visit the Canadian Paralympic website to see the complete list of athletes and sports and check out the television schedule. You can also follow the full schedule of events and list of medal winners here.
