6 Reasons to Fall in Love with Culture and Tourism

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching tomorrow, love is certainly in the air.

Here at Alberta Culture and Tourism, we love what we do! From tourism, recreation, museums and the arts to heritage, film, the Francophone Secretariat and sport, we have it all.

We want you to know that we are here for you and all Albertans — so, this Valentine’s Day here are our top reasons to fall in love with our ministry and some of the programs and services we offer:

1. Historic sites, museums and the Provincial Archives of Alberta

We have dinosaurs, Ukrainian food, vintage vehicles and so much more at our 20 provincially owned historic sites and museums.  Whether you’re looking to get away, plan a unique date night, or taking the entire family on a fun day trip, our historic sites, museums and Provincial Archives of Alberta have something for Albertans of all ages to enjoy.

2. Community Grants program

From fun programs for kids to helping struggling Albertans get back on track, Alberta nonprofits are making a difference in communities across the province with support from Alberta Culture and Tourism’s Community Grants program!

3. Tourism

Looking for love on this special day? How about running your own tourism business? Tourism Division offers programs and services to assist entrepreneurs in becoming a part of Alberta’s exciting tourism industry.  The seduction begins by visiting www.culturetourism.alberta.ca/tourism/

4. Sport and Recreation

An active Alberta is a happy Alberta and through our support of recreation and physical activity organizations across the province, we help ensure that Albertans have every opportunity to be as active as they want to be.  For example, did you know that 56 Albertans are part of Team Canada this year? Many of them got their start competing in the Alberta Winter Games and get support from Podium Alberta. We’re proud to support the Olympians and Paralympians of tomorrow. In addition, through evidence-based research, our ministry ensures to support a variety of strategies to support and inform decision making regarding active living, recreation and sport.

5. Arts, Film, Cultural Industries

Love the ballet? The Opera? Peppa Pig? You can find all these and more at the Jubilee Auditoria, two of the world’s best theatres.

Art is an integral part of Alberta’s high quality of life, and we continue to support Alberta’s artists through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, collecting and sharing Alberta’s stories through the Provincial Art Collection.

6. Francophone Secretariat

Acting as the liaison between the provincial government and Alberta’s Francophone community, the Secretariat provides a number of services including: grant funding for services in French; information in French on subjects such as living, working and immigrating to Alberta and statistics on French-speaking Albertans. Find out more and celebrate Alberta’s French heritage and fast-growing Francophonie at the upcoming Rendez-vous de la francophonie in March!

We think there’s lots to love about Alberta Culture and Tourism, and we hope you do too! More importantly, there’s lots to love about the amazing things that contribute to our one-of-a-kind culture. We hope you take every opportunity to immerse yourself in everything that makes Alberta great. Today, tomorrow…every day!
